PET Gravure Ink is a premium water-based solution developed by Star Color, specifically engineered for high-performance printing on PET plastic films. This advanced formulation delivers exceptional adhesion, ensuring durable and vibrant prints on both the inner and outer surfaces of packaging materials.
Distinguished by its strong composite fastness, this ink creates a robust bond that withstands rigorous lamination processes without delamination. It is rigorously tested to meet FDA standards, making it fully compliant for food-grade packaging applications. Furthermore, as a sustainable alternative to traditional solvent-based inks, it features low VOC emissions, ensuring a safer work environment, reduced odor, and a significantly lower environmental footprint.

Follow these recommendations to achieve optimal printing results and ink performance.
Suggested water addition is less than 10%, depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
Recommended 400-600 line screen for optimal ink transfer.
Set dryer between 60℃-80℃
If stopped for more than 30 minutes, flush the ink path thoroughly with water.
Q1. Does this ink require a primer or corona treatment on PET films?
A: While our PET Gravure Ink is formulated with high adhesion properties, we strongly recommend ensuring the surface tension of the PET film is above 38 dynes. For optimal bonding and composite strength, a corona treatment is advised prior to printing.
Q2. What is the recommended solvent or thinner for this ink?
A: As a water-based ink, it should be diluted using clean water or a water-alcohol mixture (e.g., ethanol). We recommend adjusting the viscosity to 18–25 seconds (measured with a Zahn Cup #3 or #4) depending on your specific printing speed and ambient temperature.
Q3. How does this ink perform during high-temperature retort processing?
A: Our PET Gravure Ink is designed with excellent heat resistance. It maintains its structural integrity and color stability even after high-temperature sterilization processes, making it suitable for food packaging that requires retort treatment.
Q4. Can this ink be mixed with solvent-based gravure inks?
A: No. Water-based inks and solvent-based inks have different chemical bases and are not compatible. Mixing them can cause coagulation, precipitation, or a complete loss of adhesion. Please ensure the ink trough and rollers are thoroughly cleaned before switching from solvent-based to water-based systems.
Q5. What is the shelf life of the ink, and how should it be stored?
A: The shelf life is typically 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in unopened containers. It should be kept in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. Ideally, store between 5°C and 35°C.
